1990 Toy Biz Marvel Superheroes Daredevil

Image
Growing up we had lots of cool superhero toys to collect. There was never a shortage of Batman, Superman or Spiderman figures in the toy aisles. Mainstream characters got all the love. Dudes like Daredevil, not so much. That all changed in the mid to late 80's (Mattel Secret Wars) and in 1990 Toy Biz would start releasing their seemingly neverending line of Marvel Superheroes that gave us action figures of everybody from  Daredevil to Deathlok.

Merry Christmas To Me Pt. 2

It's no surprise to most who read my blog that Daredevil and Wolverine are atop my favorite 5 comic book characters list. Both are depicted on Daredevil issue # 249! This has been on my ebay watch list for some time now and I figured it was time to pull the trigger on it. It's not pricey or anything. For me, the value here lies in the nostalgic factor. One more for the old comic book rack!

Figure Fixation

Has there ever been one certain figure that always caught your eye when looking at your collection? With me it changes, for one odd reason or another. This time around, it's my Marvel Select Daredevil figure.

Marvel Select Daredevil

I'm trying to play catch up here, with all the recent pick ups starting to pile up and not enough time to photograph them all. Thankfully I've got some pto and with my birthday coming up I decided to  take a few days off. Here's one of my favorite Select figures, Daredevil!

Quick Thoughts On Marvel Select

Image
Sorry I haven't been doing much in depth posting. Lately I've been putting in alot of hours at work as we've been hit with the Covid bug. Luckily I escaped it but a few coworkers weren't so lucky. Because of our staff shortage I've had to open and close the store which means I'm the first one there and the last one out. But I wanted, quickly, to go over a line of figures that I've been picking up alot of lately, Marvel Select.         With me, I like to be different. I hate going after the " in thing" when it comes to action figures. I almost always go against the grain, choosing to chase toy lines most collectors avoid or don't have much to say about. So I guess you could say that it was Marvel Legends insane popularity that drove me right into the arms of Marvel Select. Don't get me wrong, Marvel Legends has tons to offer, but there's something about Select that sets them apart.          With earlier Marvel Select figures,...

OH CRAP!

Every action figure collector knows this is how it starts. Look at all that empty space next to that lone Marvel Universe Daredevil action figure. Tsk, tsk, tsk. I'll have to remedy that somehow😉

Recent Pick Up

Just picked this up from my local Ollie's. Looking forward to giving it a read.

Action Figure Extraction!

I've been eyeing my Marvel Legends Retro 3.75 figs hung up on my wall for a minute now, brainstorming possible ways to get them out of the packaging while keeping the bubble intact to redisplay them. I knew what I was going to do in theory but never got around to the actual implementation of the plan.  A couple days back I successfully removed Daredevil and Black Panther. Using a new utility knife razor, I carefully cut out a rectangular shaped exit point at the top of the bubble for my Daredevil figure to slide through.  It worked like a charm! Ya gotta fudge it a little but eventually the figure will come out complete in it's plastic mold. Discard the plastic mold, you won't be needing it. Now, with the extra space I can redisplay my Daredevil figure with staffs equipped!  You can't even tell the top's been cut out. It's gonna be a little harder with the bigger figures but it should work the same. Jus...

I Found A Retro Legends Figure, In The Wild!

Image
Every week I take a ride out to Buffalo to see my daughter. Each visit consists of a ride to McDonald's for lunch and then another down to the local Walmart for a makeup run. There's 2 Walmart's, actually, but we hit up the one closest to where she lives. On these runs, she'll typically go her way to find her cosmetics and I'll check out the toy aisle, and then we meet back up to shop in tandem. Unfortunately, my daughter usually has to put up with my "scalper" or "bare toy aisle" rant. I don't think she understands the pain and I doubt she ever will. Hopes of GI Joe Classified and Marvel Legends retro crushed by rows upon rows of Power Rangers and Godzilla figures can take it's toll.  I paid for my daughter's things and we exited as I licked my wounds and kicked rocks on the way to the car. I thought about going to the other store which was about 15 minutes away but decided not to. If it wasn't for my kid insisting on going becau...

Marvel Universe - Daredevil

Image
The price of Marvel Universe and G.I. Joe action figures have been flip flopping as far as what they sell for online.Marvel Universe used to be the more expensive of the two but now ,with the high demand for G.I. Joe figures and lack of product ,their prices have increased. This is a good thing for collectors who missed out on alot of the earlier waves of  Marvel Universe figures .Like many,I have had to settle for re paints and more modern versions of characters that I would  much rather have in their original comic costumes.I missed out on the original Daredevil release and had to settle for  the dark red  version of him.Later on ,Marvel Infinite series released a nicer and more articulated DD figure which I picked up,but still, the shade of red coupled with intense black washing wasn't my favorite. I've always wanted the  solid bright red figure. It took a few years for the price to drop  ,but my patience paid off as I was finally able to add it to my colle...

Mattel Secret Wars - Daredevil

Image
Got this guy cheap on the bay and considering how rough these Daredevils usually look ,this one's not that bad.If you weren't aware, this particular figure's paint has been known to run, some call it bleeding because of the color. You can't tell from the pic but mine has lighter shaded arms and legs that faded over time.Do not ,i repeat do not try to take a wet rag to your Secret Wars Daredevil figure .It will actually begin to rub off.I find it strange that this is ,presumably, the only figure in the line that does this.On the positive side,he still has the majority of his DD emblem. Here is my collection as it stands now.
