You Are 8 Years Old.....

...and It's family road trip time again. You're allowed to bring 5 toys/action figures to accompany you on that long drive to sunny Florida.Out of your current collection, what 5 figures make the voyage with? This one I have to really think about.I would obviously have to include heroes and villains ,but they would have to be versatile enough to get maximum play out of them. One of them would have to fly so I could hold him up to the car window while my dad floors It and pretend that he's airborne. My universe of choice would have to be Marvel. But do I go with vintage Secret  Wars or modern Marvel Universe figures?Below are my choices... Venom Is a must when you talk about all out brawling and maximum carnage. I'd have him pair up with Wrecker ,who's on the run from  Punisher. Captain America intervenes ,wanting to take Wrecker into custody but Frank Castle has other plans.Meanwhile .... ...Venom Is morphing into this! It's action figu...

Round Robin Social Media Challenge- To Display Or Not To Display

Image
A while back, friend and fellow toy blogger   Mr.Smith created The Round Robin Social Media Challenge.A challenge that involved one person picking a topic for everyone else  to post about. The first person to post their entry got to choose the next weeks topic.I'd like to get that ball rolling again.I want to start this off by stating that you are in no way shape or form obligated to participate. One of the cool things about Round Robin is that there are no rules, meaning we can take months off from it if we choose to.And we did just that. But this is good because it gives us all a chance to regroup and refresh our minds with ideas and future Round Robin topics. My good buddy Brother Midnight made a good point ,saying that it was starting to become almost chore like ,and it was.But i can't lie, there seemed to be alot more cross communicating and interaction when Round Robin was around. You might be wondering why I'm posting this on a Wednesday as opposed to the beginning ...

Post a Pic Of Your Most Eccentric Action Figure!

Image
Palisades Indy Kermit Is the best I could come up with. While not terribly eccentric ,compared to all my other ,somewhat normal figures ,he certainly is.I got this In a trade with Brother Midnight a while back  and I still haven't managed to find a spot for him anywhere In my collection.Needless to say ,Adventure Kermit Isn't doing much adventuring these days  as he spends most of his time cooped   up In his packaging.Still,he's gotta be one of the most unique figures I own. Spyda, over at 20 Years Before 2000 has what has got to be the coolest TMNT item ever! Mr.Smith chose Godzil--- hey ,that's not..!

Round Robin Challenge : Post a Pic Of Your Most Eccentric Action Figure!

Image
This week we take a look at our nearest and wierdest!Post a pic or multiple pics of the most eccentric action figure In your collection. This would be a museum worthy action figure. One that would draw alot of ooohs and aaaahs from an art show crowd.Good luck, people! Busts or PVC are fine, too!

Curating

Image
Curate ;  select, organize, and look after the items in (a collection or exhibition). "both exhibitions are curated by the museum's director" Lets    start with the first one.How do I select my collection or items In my collection? Very simple. 95 % of It  has to have some kind of childhood connection.I had to have at least owned It or wanted It real bad as a kid.Although lately I've been restricting myself ,only acquiring vintage that I owned as a kid.The other 5% Is made up of miscellaneous things that I just think are cool. Second, how do I organize? I guess you could count displaying as organizing as everything that I have displayed Is bunched together according to the line. All my Joes together, all my Marvel Universe together and so on and so forth.I'm too ocd to have It any other way.Once In a while I'll mix a Joe into my Marvel Universe display and vice versa ,but for the most part my figures are segregated....

Ultimate Crossover Pictorial

AND TIME WAS NO LONGER UNTRAVERSABLE! When the Power Sword suddenly disappears,He-Man enters a time rift to see when and where exactly this occurred and bring the culprit to justice!Unfortunately ,the evil Hordak catches wind of  He-Mans plans and attempts to beat him to the punch with a time rift of his own. Both would fail miserably :(  Unable to travel to the exact time of the Power Swords disappearance,He-Man instead finds himself In a prehistoric, feral setting and befriends a Native American hero named Arak.Arak, foolishly believing that his navigational skills  could lead He-Man In the right direction, enters the time rift. Both He-Man and Arak find themselves In a futuristic world with tall ,sleek and towering buildings and speeding metal machines! It Is there  where they are confronted by 4 turtle like creatures - Leonardo,Donatello,Michelangelo and Raphael! Hordak was no gifted time traveler himself. This rag tag group Is the direct result of  ...

Round Robin Challenge: Your Mission,Should You Choose To Accept It

Image
I'm hoping Mr.Smith doesn't mind me changing the rules up here a little ,but I'd like to give Round Robin Challengers an extra week on this assignment.Only because It will involve a little leg work. This weeks challenge, should you choose to accept it,goes a little something like this... Remember how cool It was when our moms would come home from shopping and we found items like the following In the grocery bags? Now we get to relive that magical moment!Your mission Is to go out and pick up any cartoon/movie themed food item and review it!Snap pics of  the food contents within. Is it fairly priced?Does It live up to the hype? How well does It represent the characters on the  box? How  does It taste and would you recommend ?   Bloggers who find an item with a premium prize inside will receive a bonus.Heck I might even send them a little something :) Good Luck!!!!

Behind The Music

Image
I'm big on music,so this was a challenge I wanted to do but couldn't wrap my head around.I wasn't going to participate this week ,but after getting the 411 from Mr.Smith ,It's all systems go!  This challenge led me to do some digging Into my past to verify some things. And I'm glad I did.You see I have this thing where certain songs, especially 80's songs, throw my ass right back to the exact place and time I might have been listening to It.I say I might have because I haven't really done any verification on any of these memories. But I refuse to think of them as false memories because the images that appear In my head are so damn vivid/lucid.This will be one of the first times that I actually do a little fact checking on the release of a song that damn near puts me In a nostalgic trance every time I hear It. No joke,It's like time stops and I'm jettisoned back to my childhood. It's pretty freaky actually.Have any of you guys /gals ever exper...

Best Adaption

Image
No movie adaptation blew me away more than the first Spiderman ,with Tobey Maguire. The scene where he first discovers his powers Is so unforgettable!Everything about that movie was epic. One of the best times I've ever had watching a movie.                                   Check out these other great big screen transitions  Mr.Smith gives us 5 finalists Alexis deals out some Justice! Toy Box goes the Netflix route

Kids @ Play!

Image
Much like Alexis ,I kept to myself when It came to playing with my action figures.I had friends ,but none that I would ever allow Inside of my little action figure world. My older brother and sisters always had their own, grown up  thing going on. My cousin was the only one I could sit and vibe with on some Gi Joe and Transformers shit lol!But I don't remember having any action figure play sessions with him .It was more or less just a show and tell session and maybe a trade would develop somewhere down the line.Like I've stated In the past, action figure play sessions weren't just for fun.Lots of times ,when family problems arose or when my older siblings became too much to bare, action figures proved to be quite therapeutic.Much like Brother Midnight,I would drag out stories  that sometimes spanned days. There was nothing better than waking up early In the morning to pick up where you left off the day before. Before I compiled enough Joes to actually create my own uni...

Round Robin Challenge : Kids @ Play!

Image
Always curious about this. With all of us being action figure collectors as kids,I'm wondering what everyone's approach to actually playing with them was.Did you prefer playing alone,or with a friend? Please explain why for both answers. How did you play with them? While you're at It,throw In the kind of relationship you have with your toys. Were you the care free ,I don't care what happens to or who plays with my toys type of kid or were you overprotective of them?Set the scene.

Surprise Inheritance

Image
Brother Midnight's Round Robin Challenge Is the stuff of dreams.Damn,I would flip If someone left me $5,000.00  just to spend on toys!!!Now I'm not exactly sure what everything In my list sells for but I'm pretty sure It's up there. Lets get started! Brand spanking new and sealed ,this baby goes well over $1,000.00 .This would be the first thing I track down. These are going well into the hundreds, new maybe more.I used to have a Rolling Thunder as a kid and would love to be able to find one mint!     Brand new In box,Castle Grayskull goes for about $500.00.I need this thing!  This Is way expensive factory sealed.Lets say $1,000.00 ,bringing my total so far to about $3,500.00,lol! I would have to haggle the price down on one of these suckers, used!I can probably get one complete for about $500.00 bucks. $200.00 for a new Marvel Universe Galactus. I had a strange relationship with my Boglin as a kid.I used to believe he wo...

Obsessions!

Image
I obsess over expensive action figures.Especially ones that I need for my collection.I will look at them on E bay and hobby shop shelves with their inflated price tags, and die a little inside. However, that doesn't stop me from  constantly looking for them ,hoping to stumble across one with a decent price.Below are a list of figures I obsessed over and was able to get either by way of trade or on the  cheap.Trying to find any one of these figures , used, for under 15 bucks has  proved to be a difficult task.I waited around for a long time to find these figures at a price I could afford. I got super lucky when I found this Indiana Jones figure, loose,In a dollar bin at a local hobby shop.Even without his original weapons (save for his man purse),1 buck isn't bad. I've been wanting this Venomous Maximus figure for ages and was happy to receive It In a trade from good Derek (Orniphus) over at  coolandunusual . You don't know how many times I'v...

Piece De La Resistance/My Heroic Origin

Image
Not sure what happened this week but Mr.Smith and Brother Midnight both tugged at this weeks Round Robin Challenge like a chew toy and neither could pry It out of one another's jaws, lol! So I guess this week we'll play two! Piece de la Resistance This one was tough because I don't have anything that will wow the super collector. But I must say that I'm impressed with my Marvel Universe collection. I've slowly been able to amass about 50 figures. Not just any 50,but 50 figures that I actually need.Well, with the exception of a couple of extra Hulks.I've done a pretty good job of disciplining myself with this collection and I'm happy  with  what I've been able to accomplish. I've pretty much corralled every important Avenger ,almost.I'm one figure away from completing my F4 team.I'm about three figures away from completing my team of X-Men and with the addition of a couple of key  heroes ,I'm close to having a figure of  most of the big...
