Gee ,Thanks!

Image
It’s the season to be thankful. Firstly, lets get the obvious out of the way.Of course I'm thankful for my fam and the kids and all that other mushy good stuff. But I'm going to keep this pop culture related. What am I most thankful for as far as childhood brainwashing agents go?Hint- It's a cartoon character. Hint 2 - He is the reason I began collecting action figures again. Hint 3 - Look at the picture below.            What made me want to start collecting action figures as an adult you ask?Easy.Snake Eyes. And even though I had picked up a few vintage Joes before him,Snake Eyes  was always the one I wanted. So there I was ,an adult about to make my childhood dream of obtaining a Snake Eyes figure finally come true!Snake Eyes w/ Timber V.2,released In 1985 would be the first of It's kind to make It onto my, then scant, vintage action figure display. And there would be more after.... Once I  had my fair share o...

Red State/Blue State

Image
Snap a red and/or blue themed photo I literally had to kick myself In the ass this morning to muster up some  motivation for this post.I hate taking my figures off of display for group shots like this but I figured the shelves need a good resetting anyways. I'm going with a predominantly blue theme. Some oddball blue inspired items! I know,California Raisins are purple, but check out those kicks! Blue figures that didn't make the group shot.Timber obviously has the art of photobombing mastered.   Dracs skillfully unfurls his cape to block Timber out of this shot.  And last but not least,my stinky coffee mug.Steve Rogers clearly doesn't like what he sees. Brother Midnight has his eye on you ! La,la-la la la,la Alexis' Universe! La,la-la la,la La la,la Toy Box ! Mr.Smith keeps it real!

Zombies

Image
My very first memories of Zombies date back to Night of the Living Dead.I was In my teens when I  first saw It re-aired on TV ,and It didn't really scare me.I remember It being pretty intense but nothing that really scared the crap out of me.It wasn't until Resident Evil that I would start giving Zombies the respect they damn well deserved. This game released In 1996 ,well before the  Walking Dead  craze and the influx of Zombie films that would be released In the 2,000's.Not that Resident Evil started the trend, but It got the ball rolling for our generation ,kind of like how Night of the Living Dead got It going for kids In the 60's.I remember watching an interview with the creator of Walking Dead and not once did he mention Resident Evil as It being one of his inspirations.I'm sure he played the shit out of that game and gained at least some inspiration from It. Resident Evil on the PS1 filled that  post Jason Vorhees,Bubba Sawyer,Michael Myers and Fre...

Listicular Fortitude

MY TOP 10 FAVORITE G.I. JOE ACCESSORIES One   of my favorite things about G.I. Joe figures was the accessories some of them came with.No doubt, the animal companions has alot to do with that. There were also lots of cool and unique weapons and extras thrown In for certain figures, which imo put them over the top. These were figures that appealed to me more than the ones that came with your standard backpack and rifle. So lets begin with number 10. 10.Dial Tone's backpack   9.Road Pig's brick weapon  8.Super Trooper's chromed out weapons                                                                                                   7.Big ...

Aliens Among Us!

Image
“If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn’t turn out well for the Native Americans.” –Stephen Hawking "I've always had this theory that Stephen Hawking secretly rules our world. This Is In no way meant to offend anyone with a disability ,but It just so happens to factor into my theory.Think about It, a ruling man In his condition would want to shape and mold society and every day life into something that would accommodate him. He's angry at the world and now he wants everyone to be like him.Think about It- everything Is voice activated from T.V.'s to Smartphones .No need to use your arms and hands.Hover boards eliminate the need to walk.Cars will be self driving and Hawking hates bees hence the decrease In .bee population .A stretch?Maybe. But hell,Hawking Is probably an Alien himself and If he says we will go the way of the Native Americans then we better listen." - Big Tone For more incredibly addic...

Buying Blind

Image
Who doesn’t love gambling on a blind box or mystery package?                                                          Me. I don't like not knowing what I'm gonna get, when It comes to action figures and toys.Even as a kid,I would ask the guy behind the counter at McDonald's If he could throw the specific toy I wanted into my Happy Meal cuz I didn't want to get a Miss Piggy  again ,I wanted a Gonzo. The only time I knew my hands were completely tied was with packs of baseball cards and cereal box premiums.Which reminds me,remember when we all got hip to the cereal box premium schemes? My sister would dig for hours through a box of Coco Puffs looking for that pack of Bonkers chewing taffy to no avail.I'd quickly step In and show her the ropes, pulling the cereal box prize out from inside th...

House of Wax!

Image
"The local Wax Museum is having a fire sale and you have the opportunity to add a life-size, life-like action figure to your collection. Who do you choose?" Dees ees tuff!Damn,so many to choose from.I don't want an actual wax representation of a person, instead It would be a wax action figure,If that's possible. It's going to be between these two... I loved the fact that I was able to add a Titan sized Hulk to my collection,so a life sized replica of this figure would be amazing!Damn <swaying my head from side to side>,just thinking about it... Or.. This guy right here!I've seen the mini Secret Wars bobble heads at Walgreens and the jumbo sized ones online, but a life size Secret Wars figure w/ shield would be epic! All right ,let's flip one of my lucky 80's  coins,1982 to be exact.Heads Hulk, tails Captain America... And the winner Is  Secret Wars Captain America ! There are a plethora of Pop Culture...

First Quarter- What Is Your Earliest Arcade Or Video Game Memory

Image
I'm a little under the weather but prepared to mush on due to the appeal of this weeks Pop Culture League assignment. One of the first games that I can remember jamming on was Kung Fu Master! Forgive me for using who's ever photo this Is. I promise that I am not planning on making any money off of it and will not take credit for the photo as It Is not mine. That out of the way,the story begins.I was maybe 10 or 11 when I entered my very first arcade. My sisters boyfriend ,at the time, brought me down to a small mom and pops arcade and just kept feeding me quarters. He was cool as fuck ,man.Always bringing me He-Man figures and other neat goodies that his younger brother didn't want anymore.Trips to Toys R Us and comic shops were common whenever he'd stop In to see my sister and say hello to the family.Just a cool cat.So anyways,Kung Fu Master was the first machine to catch my eye. Before you knew It,I was leg sweeping and punching oncoming opponents like a champ!...

If Never Finishing What You Started Was An Olympic Sport,I'd Have A Gold Medal Around My Neck

Image
Don't fret,If there's one thing I do decide to finish by the end of this week It will be  this post.Everything else I'm not so sure about.I am the champion my friend. The champion of leaving things undone. The winner when It comes to premeditated procrastination. The most unmotivated gold medalist you'll ever meet.Yup,this guy right here.I'll get excited about something ,a project or  an idea, haphazardly implement It,then quickly lose interest and move on.It's not that things won't get finished because they will,It's just gonna take a while. In fact ,If  I were In the  Olympics ,I'd most likely be the last one to tumble past the finish line. But that's kosher ,cuz In my world,It would earn me a Gold medal! Head over to The   Rebel Page  and see what got him the Gold! 20 Years Before 2000  creates 80's day! Brother Midnight  ,over at Green Plastic Squirt Gun needs a maid. Jon from  The Harvey Mercheum   chimes In and Miss M...
