Birthday Haul

Image
I recently got some birthday cash from the parentals and decided It was time to scratch that damn Punisher itch that I haven't been able to successfully get rid of . And that damn Series 4 figure! Well ,read on .... I was pretty excited to get another V.4 Punisher figure . I thought for sure this one would be a keeper . I was wrong :(  The messed up part about the whole thing Is that the leg worked great ! This time It was his shoulder joint  . The previous owner must have crazy glued It in place because It just wouldn't move . Also , you could tell where the glue was applied because there was goop everywhere . So , yeah , this one's going back . And ,yes , another one is on the way.        This purchase was a success  . My first Legends figure ! Actually , I haven't taken him out of the packaging yet so my fingers are crossed .  Down below you'll notice the dreaded v.4  figure. I managed to snap this pic of...

Epic Moments In Action Figure History : 1991 Toy Biz Quick Change Armor Iron Man

Image
Super hero action figures have always been around. And whether you were battling It out In your backyard with Mego or adventuring on an alien planet with Mattel's line of Secret Wars figures, there were always times when you wished you could remove a figures mask or helmet to reveal their secret identity. Secret identities were huge In the comics we read , and played just as big a part as the alter egos did. How cool would It have been to have a David Banner or  Peter Parker  figure?!?  While we never got either of the aforementioned, In 1991 Toy Biz gave us Tony Stark! Quick Change Armor Iron Man's  helmet ,chest ,arm and leg armor were all removable giving the figure  maximum re-playabilty! The release of Toy Biz's 1991 line of Marvel Superheroes will always be pretty unforgettable ,but It was figures like this that ,IMO, make It an epic moment In action figure history!

My Marvel Superheroes ToyBiz Collection ,So Far

This Is a line that I will try collecting MOC or loose but as mint as possible. Also, they will have to be complete.Of course the minute this  becomes  to tall of a task then we can go ahead and throw everything I just stated In the first sentence out the window.

Marvel Superheroes ToyBiz - Iron Man

Image
Another day, another action figure scratched off my want list. This figure takes me back to the early 90's.I was trying desperately to outgrow toys and be more of a ladies man.I mean my brother had girlfriends left and right and It was about time I  followed In his footsteps.Unfortunately Marvel ToyBiz happened. And damn It If these weren't the coolest freaking action figures EVER!I mean not since Secret Wars had I seen   a  Marvel superhero action figure, and these ones had removable gear!Wolverine had the removable mask,Magneto's helmet and this figure right here.I lost my marbles when I first laid eyes on this figure.Ohh the play possibilities! An Iron Man with removable armor!!!!!GTFO!Of course, back then It was easy to overlook the fact that Iron Man's helmet was wayyy too big for his body and that this figure could have easily passed for a bobblehead, but we were so jaded.  Little ads and promotions like this were commonplace back then.Toy companies ...

Toy Biz Marvel Legends Showdown 3 3/4

Image
While most people prefer Hasbro's Marvel Universe figures when It comes to character likenesses,I feel like Toy Biz got It right a few times themselves. In 2006 ,Toy Biz introduced the Showdown series.Figures came In single and two packs and were packaged with trading cards  and die  ,combining action figures with a  strategy card game .The line was hit and miss, but the hits were right on.Below are 4 of the nicer looking figures In the wave. There are other great looking figures but these are the few that I own. The one major problem with this line lies In the quality department. The figures look great but must be handled with kid - gloves. Also,be careful when removing these figures from their packaging as their limbs and the plastic could be brittle due to being carded for so long. Doctor Octopus Is my favorite of the bunch but I'm so afraid of  breakage that I try to avoid handling him too much. That kind of sucks for those of you who like to constantly pose...

More Doc Ock Figures Than One Man Should Be Allowed To Have

Image
I've been picking off  ToyBiz figures left and right ,finding them pretty cheap carded on Ebay. Hopefully the prices will remain  the same until I'm able to pick up the main figs I'm after.Today we look at Doctor Octopus. No,this Isn't a Reaction figure. In fact, these days Reaction figures tend to be pretty articulated. But yeah, this Is none other than Doc Ock!Albeit,a slimmed down version. As much as I disliked these figures back then,I totally love them now.He looks so cheezy but yet and still you know It's Doctor Octopus when you look at him. It's all there. The bowl cut ,the glasses ,the tentacles.Speaking of,I was afraid that the tentacles would be flimsy and too fragile to play with. But no,they are actually pretty damn functional. You can even have Ock suspended In air because of how good the bend-em tentacles stay In place. I know have quite the 3 3/4 Doctor Octopus figure collection. Not on purpose, either. Here they are ,chronologically dis...

Marvel Superheroes - Hulk (ToyBiz 1990)

Image
The 70's had It's fair share of Hulk action figures. From Pocket Heroes to Die cast articulated figures and of course the famous 12 " Mego dolls. The 80's not so much. How cool would It have been to own a Mattel Secret Wars Hulk action figure!Well, we shall never know. In 1990, ToyBiz ,a toy company affiliated with Marvel Entertainment and based out of  super hero haven, NY city , took on the task of releasing a line of Marvel action figures! If you were a casual fan you probably didn't mind the myriad of  gimmicks that were given to the first few waves of figures. I didn't care for the gimmicks   much but  was excited to see Marvel action figures being produced again. With the Hulk figure ,his gimmick  wasn't so much  "smash" as It was " bend".The bent pipe accessory is very malleable .Place the pipe...

Spider-Man,Spider-Man!

Image
Since the 70's ,every decade has seen   a  Spider-Man action figure release. Mego and Remco  got the ball rolling with Pocket Heroes and Energized Spidey. Mattel  would then pick up the torch In 1984 with the Secret Wars line ,giving us both a red and black suit Spider-Man figure. While most  collectors who grew up In the 70's would point to their beloved Mego Spider-Man as their definitive version ,I would have to say Mattel nailed It. Nothing fancy.Just a solid 3 3/4 action figure with no gimmicks or features to get in the way of the sculpt. The web shooting and thwipp effects would come  solely from our imaginations. Things were looking up for action figure Spidey and every few years or so   ,a new, more efficient version would be released.I ,for one, couldn't wait to see what the 90's would have In store.I mean, with technology booming, cartoons premiering ,It was definitely time for "THE" Spider-Man action figure to be unveiled. And th...
