Close Ecounters of the Nerd Kind

Image
Back in my drinking days, HEAVY drinking days, I frequented local bars and played lots of darts. A buddy of mine used to always say " Nice weathering!" which, according to him, meant that I was doing a good job of going after all of the targets and not wasting time on one specific. It occurred to me that that's kind of how I've been collecting. Mixing it up while not fixating on one collectible or another. Action figures are still high priority  but thanks to Matt from ToyBox I've also been exploring the world of comics alot more lately. Other days I'm online looking for cool singles to pad my sportscard collection. What can I say,  It's the price I pay for being a member of the nerdy kind 🤓 Here's a look at a few of my recent additions!  I love Dormammu's design! He gives off strong Jack Kirby vibes!  Thanks to ToyBox for sending me these two issues of the incredible Hulk!  Red Circle comics/Archie comics  are ...

I Collect Cards, Too!

Image
For those of you who didn't know, I am also a big sportscard collector. In fact, I have a sportscard blog that has been collecting dust on the interwebs, longing for some new cardboard content. It's not that I've stopped collecting. I just don't do it as often. These days I'm buying singles on ebay, staying away from the expensive and expansive selection of packs that clutter the card aisles at my local Target. And forget about buying cards at Walmart. Everything is locked up behind glass cases and the key- holding employee is always nowhere to be found. I'm not sure how they stay in business. Anyways, here are some of the singles I've picked up over the past couple of months.  I'm not even a hockey fan but how do you consider yourself a sportscard collector and not have at least one card of " The Great One" . Ten straight seasons with 1,000 plus receiving yards! Not too shabby.  ...

Recent Pick Ups!

Image
Just a quick Wednesday morning post to get the day started. A nice box of 1988 Donruss baseball cards to rip, a couple of 1988 Topps Rack Packs, two more Joe Minimates and Marvel Legends X-Men 97 Wolverine just about sums up my October pick ups.

A Post For Jon 😉

Image
A few posts ago, fellow blog follower and reader  Jon   requested I show some of what was in my sportscard shoeboxes. So below are just a couple of oldies but goodies, mostly guys from my childhood, sitting quietly stashed.  Some of you toy bloggers out there may be familiar with some of the names.

Ultra Pro Baseball Card Stands

Image
I've been wracking my brain lately, trying to create a makeshift card display.Brainstorming for ideas and coming up empty every time. Finally I gave In and took to eBay to see what was available.I wasn't looking for anything fancy schmancy, just a small stand, strong enough to hold up one card In a top-loader.I'm not sure how many of you out there collect trading cards ,but If you do then you know that Ultra Pro has all of your trading card supply needs.Unless there's something else out there that I don't know about,Ultra Pro Is my go-to brand.Needless to say, I wasn't surprised to find this  affordable set of 5 Ultra Pro card stands for just under 5 bucks shipped! The cards look great when displayed on the transparent stands. The stands ,however, are pretty lightweight,so you're not gonna keep anything much bigger than your standard sized top loader or screw-down from tipping over.  I thought I might be able to display some action figure card ...

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

Image
And what better way to celebrate than with what has to be one of my all time favorite card designs,Topps Turkey Red!These were based on the original designs of the past and have a nice ,antiquated look to them. The cards look and feel like mini canvases.Every player looks like they were hand painted with some really nice and picturesque  backdrops.I still have a bunch of these ,some in binders and others in shoeboxes.Again,I could have posted this on my sports blog but everyone on that side of town has seen these before. And even though this is the toy orientated side of the blogosphere, sometimes its nice to look at something a little bit different. On that note,Happy Topps Turkey Red Thanksgiving everyone🦃
