Feeling Nostalgic Today

Image
I don't know If It was the warm  and sunny morning or the plethora of  unbalanced chemicals roaming around aimlessly In my brain today, but I woke up feeling super nostalgic.Mornings like this I play the local 80's radio station while driving the kids to school and mom to work just to add to the overall experience. This can't be healthy, trying to recreate 80's moments, but It feels so damn good! So,may your Friday be filled with euphoric childhood  flashbacks of epic action figure battles In your room or backyards! After you get home from school ,of course ;)

Retro Revival Blog Challenge: Forgotten Food and Dining Experiences

Image
What stands out the most to me when thinking back on my childhood restaurant experiences are smoking sections .Smoking was allowed  not only in restaurants, but also bars, shopping malls and  certain places of employment. It wasn't something that bugged me as a kid ,seeing as how practically everybody In my family smoked at the time.I'm pretty sure It must have bugged some non smokers but all in all ,both sides were accommodated. One side smoking, the other non-smoking.I don't know, Is It just me ,are were people generally alot calmer back then? You didn't have to rush your meal  to  run out for a quick smoke  before your 45 minute  lunch break came to an end.You didn't have to pop any anti anxiety pills either, one smoke pretty much did the trick.I quit 10 years ago but sympathize with those who smoke today. They are treated like misfits and god knows the shits gonna hit the fan If they ever decide to make It illegal. What's your take? First Quarter- What Is Your Earliest Arcade Or Video Game Memory

Image
I'm a little under the weather but prepared to mush on due to the appeal of this weeks Pop Culture League assignment. One of the first games that I can remember jamming on was Kung Fu Master! Forgive me for using who's ever photo this Is. I promise that I am not planning on making any money off of it and will not take credit for the photo as It Is not mine. That out of the way,the story begins.I was maybe 10 or 11 when I entered my very first arcade. My sisters boyfriend ,at the time, brought me down to a small mom and pops arcade and just kept feeding me quarters. He was cool as fuck ,man.Always bringing me He-Man figures and other neat goodies that his younger brother didn't want anymore.Trips to Toys R Us and comic shops were common whenever he'd stop In to see my sister and say hello to the family.Just a cool cat.So anyways,Kung Fu Master was the first machine to catch my eye. Before you knew It,I was leg sweeping and punching oncoming opponents like a champ!...

80's Bootleg Wrestling Champs - Hulk Hogan

Image
Lots of kids had this Hogan back In the day.You were sure to find this in your friends toy box ,somewhere stashed underneath a pile of other toys that didn't get as much playtime.I'd like to track down a belt for him to rock.To me,Hulk Hogan was,and still Is In my opinion  the Michael  Jordan of Wrestling. He went through his ups and downs with allegiances, but he was always the quintessential leader. He never quit, and when he got that second wind and put his hand to his ear,the crowd would totally loose It!This figure is an awesome representation of the Hulkster,in my opinion.

LJN D&D - Strongheart

Image
My vintage display Is slowly coming along.I don't want to overload It with too many  toys that have no special connection to my childhood.I like my figures to have some kind of a backstory ,such as this D&D Strongheart figure.I see alot of blogs that gush over ljn's D&D figures of the 80's.As a kid I never saw the appeal.I was more of a super hero/military action figure enthusiast ,which Is probably why I never got too into MOTU. Flashback to the mid 80's! After receiving some last minute birthday cash,I was In deep need of an action figure fix.Being a kid, finding a way to get to the store was half the battle.I would have to wait for my dad to get home (my mom didn't have her own car) or take the gamble and walk to the nearest  Convenient mini mart and hope  they had even a semblance of what I was In the market for.Good news -My brother happened to have the car that day!Bad news - He didn't feel like driving very far,so Convenient It was going to be :(  ...
