TMNT X GIJOE - Buzzer x Rocksteady
One of my favorite things about the TMNT universe is that it takes place in NYC. I grew up in upstate NY but have had family in Brooklyn, Bronx and Manhattan. Trips to NYC as a kid were frequent. I also grew up in a household, thanks to my older brothers and sisters, surrounded by Rock/Punk, graffiti and Hip Hop culture. Elements the TMNT world borrows from heavily. Everything from the bubble lettered TMNT logo, villains like Bebop with mohawks and piercings down to the Hip Hop inspired names of characters like Rocksteady. The urban vibes are strong with this franchise which is why I found it so strange to see the release of this line. A GIJoe/TMNT collabo?!? If TMNT and GIJoe are drugs, then TMNT X GIJOE is your brain on drugs! Any questions? It all still makes no sense to me but I'm loving every moment! Let's take a look at Buzzer x Rocksteady shall we?
With chunkier figures like Rocksteady, you're gonna get less mobility. Aesthetically, Rocksteady is, well, Rocksteady. A tough skinned, punk rocker/ rhino hybrid with legs and arms like tree trunks. Top all of that off with a little Dreadnok swagger and you've got a force to be reckoned with.
Buzzer x Rocksteady comes with a chainsaw rifle and serated axe. Neither of which I'm particularly fond of. The chainsaw's a little too long and the serated axe doesn't look much like an axe at all. Looks more like a transmission gear fused with a fireplace poker.
Here's a nice selfie of Rocksteady showing off his newly acquired pony tail. Now he and Bebop can argue over where the hair ties are.
I've got a few more items from this line to check out but before that, a post about a recently acquired display cabinet I picked up over the weekend. Stay tuned!
