Marvel Secret Wars - Black Suit Spider-Man

Image
Yesss!I was finally able to score a Secret Wars black suit Spider-Man!This has been one of the hardest ,of the ones that were released here In the states, for me to track down for a decent price. This one I had as a kid ,but I can't remember where I got him.I want to say CVS Pharmacy.I picked him up boxed with that good for nothing  Styrofoam glider. You couldn't place the figure on the glider from what I can remember and I don't remember ever seeing a glider In the comics. In fact, let me pull up a boxed image on Google to see If I can get a better understanding of It today..hold on...   Ok so here's that set.As you can see the figure just seems to be sitting there with no kind of cockpit or seat to hold him In place. I'm thinking maybe there was a rubber band or something that held the figure down, not sure, though. That glider never lasted long in my collection,In fact i'm pretty sure I tossed It aside and forgot all about It.All I really wanted was the figure.B

Raf Gets His Belt!

Image
So I hopped online and found a cheap ,vintage Raphael belt and I just had to pull the trigger. The lack of clothing was really starting to wear on Raphael's dignity. He's better now that he has his belt back, although a pair of Sai would really put him over the top ;)

Vintage TMNT Figure Hunt Officially Over!

Image
The final two  arrived yesterday ,Donatello and Raphael. Many of you who have followed my whiny, vintage needs, posts can finally breath a sigh of relief. You don't have to hear me bitching about how much I need a set of vintage ninja turtles anymore. And even If It wasn't annoying you,It was annoying the crap out of me.So much so that I took matters into my own hands, sold off a couple of figures and went to eBay to go on a  TMNT cyber hunt, even If It meant cutting the cost by buying them  without any weapons.I knew It wasn't going to be easy and that I was going to have to make sacrifices because complete ninja turtles on eBay nowadays are ridiculously expensive.I wanted mine to come with,at least, their web gear/belts.Leo came with his web gear and so did Mikey ,along with one nun chuck and a couple of extra weapons.Leo was about 13 bucks shipped and Michelangelo  $7.Donatello and Raphael came together ,$ 9.99 for the pair for the pair.Donatello came weaponless w/web gear and

LJN D&D - Strongheart

Image
My vintage display Is slowly coming along.I don't want to overload It with too many  toys that have no special connection to my childhood.I like my figures to have some kind of a backstory ,such as this D&D Strongheart figure.I see alot of blogs that gush over ljn's D&D figures of the 80's.As a kid I never saw the appeal.I was more of a super hero/military action figure enthusiast ,which Is probably why I never got too into MOTU. Flashback to the mid 80's! After receiving some last minute birthday cash,I was In deep need of an action figure fix.Being a kid, finding a way to get to the store was half the battle.I would have to wait for my dad to get home (my mom didn't have her own car) or take the gamble and walk to the nearest  Convenient mini mart and hope  they had even a semblance of what I was In the market for.Good news -My brother happened to have the car that day!Bad news - He didn't feel like driving very far,so Convenient It was going to be :(

Go! Games and Toys

Image
The other day ,my better half and I had the chance to traverse our local mall early In the day.I hate going to malls at peak hours or on the weekends. The crowds are just too damn cool for me.Long story short, our mall now has a toy store! I couldn't believe my eyes. From a far It looked like It was going to be some artsy fartsy place with educational toys ,wooden blocks and model kits, but no!This place had pretty much everything collectors go for nowadays. The name of the store Is "Go!,Toys and Games" and I can honestly say that I've never heard of It before.Everything was a dollar or two extra ,but that's not too bad considering how ridiculously expensive modern toys are In hobby and toy shops these days.I really hope this place sticks around. There Is a nice mix of everything.Marvel Legends,Star Wars  to blind bags to Funko figs.On top of that there are tons of board games   and books. WTF? Yes! 3 3/4 Marvel Legends!!!!!Not alot thou

TMNT Michelangelo (vintage)

Image
I got Michelangelo today!I managed to find his soft head version with at least one set of nun chucks and some extra weapons to arm the other turtles.

TMNT Leonardo (vintage)

Image
I've been after vintage TMNT figures for what seems like an eternity. The four, original turtles anyway. It seems like many of the gimmick turtles and supporting cast of heroes and villains could be had on the cheap while the original four always carried a hefty price tag. That hefty price tag doubled If the  turtles happened to be the soft, rubber head versions.I finally stuck to my guns, got assertive and picked up all four turtles over the weekend. It took a little leg work and sacrifice ,as I had to sell off some of my contemporary collection to pull It off.Leonardo arrived yesterday and I'm super thrilled to have him! It's not the soft head version, nor did he come with any weapons, but at least I got him with his web gear.If anybody has an extra vintage Leonardo Katana lying around for trade or donation, goodwill starts here ;)

Marvel Universe - Captain Britain (Comic Pack)

Image
Captain Britain Is a figure I would have loved to own as a kid.He was one of those obscure characters that never got alot of the spotlight, but always looked so cool to me.I remember seeing him in an art book called  How To Draw The Marvel Way.In fact this was the panel right here. I always liked his uniform and overall look but never knew much about him.Lots of people prefer his cowl uni over the original but not me.I'll take the  ninja masked look any day over the cowl.It wasn't until I picked up his comic pack that came with Spider-Man that I was able to really read up on his origins and find out a little more about him,the amulet and his staff . I like that Hasbro gave him the taller sculpt ,giving him a more imposing appearance.I'm also digging the amulet as a separate piece instead of it being molded into the sculpt. The flag design on his wrists and mask look good too.

Spider-Man Fiercest Foes - Venom

Image
I'll be revisiting some of my favorite figures these next couple of days ,starting with this here Venom.I had pretty much accepted the fact that I was never going to own a Venom figure.I came late to the Spider-Man Fiercest Foes party and every Venom figure  on  eBay and Amazon was selling for ridiculous amounts.Years later , while making a quick stop at Walgreens,I decided to check out the toy aisle.Walgreens overprices their action figures, and sometimes they'll warm the pegs long after whatever line their from disappears from department store shelves. After scanning past the usual suspects, a bunch of  Dragon Ball Z,Walking Dead   and Mortal Kombat figs,I spotted the bright  Spider-Man Fiercest Foes cardbacks! And there was Venom! He was still overpriced  at $13.99  but cheaper than the $25.00 they were asking for on eBay and Amazon. I brought It home, thinking I had the perfect Venom action figure, only to be let down after taking him out of the packaging. WHAT!No leg a
