Retro Revival Blog Challenge: Forgotten Food and Dining Experiences





What stands out the most to me when thinking back on my childhood restaurant experiences are smoking sections .Smoking was allowed  not only in restaurants,but also bars,shopping malls and  certain places of employment.It wasn't something that bugged me as a kid ,seeing as how practically everybody In my family smoked at the time.I'm pretty sure It must have bugged some non smokers but all in all ,both sides were accommodated.One side smoking,the other non-smoking.I don't know, Is It just me ,are were people generally alot calmer back then?You didn't have to rush your meal  to  run out for a quick smoke  before your 45 minute  lunch break came to an end.You didn't have to pop any anti anxiety pills either,one smoke pretty much did the trick.I quit 10 years ago but sympathize with those who smoke today.They are treated like misfits and god knows the shits gonna hit the fan If they ever decide to make It illegal.What's your take?

    That's what I like to refer to as "the good old days". Back through the years, it wasn't just your right as a man to smoke, it was your gosh darn duty. At least that's what all the advertising made you think.

    I'm a smoker, and I do miss the ability to push back from the table in a restaurant and have a good smoke after a meal.

      By the time I started smoking It was already banned from most public places.All except for a bar I used to frequent that allowed It.The owner was a Vietnam vet and would have it no other way. I was,however,annoyed at my shortened lunch breaks due to having to run out for a quick one after a meal.

    My father smoked when I was a kid and I always dreaded the end of the meal when he would light up. The smell was terrible and ruined the somewhat rare experience of getting to eat out. I was so happy years later when this was banned in restaurants. The majority of people are non-smokers and shouldn't have to smell that while they're eating.

    I heard somewhere that New York was raising the price per pack to $13.00 each. I remember when they were three to four dollars, and I thought that was highway robbery.

    I remember when 5 bucks used to get me a 40 ounce and a pack of generic Monarch cigarettes lol!

The other day ,my better half and I had the chance to traverse our local mall early In the day.I hate going to malls at peak hours or on the weekends.The crowds are just too damn cool for me.Long story short,our mall now has a toy store! I couldn't believe my eyes.From a far It looked like It was going to be some artsy fartsy place with educational toys ,wooden blocks and model kits,but no!This place had pretty much everything collectors go for nowadays.The name of the store Is "Go!,Toys and Games" and I can honestly say that I've never heard of It before.Everything was a dollar or two extra ,but that's not too bad considering how ridiculously expensive modern toys are In hobby and toy shops these days.I really hope this place sticks around. There Is a nice mix of everything.Marvel Legends,Star Wars  to blind bags to Funko figs.On top of that there are tons of board games   and books. WTF? Yes! 3 3/4 Marvel Legends!!!!!Not alot thou

A GI Joe Post That's Not Classified

As much as I love the Classified line of Joe figures, I feel like there's other Joe stuff out there that deserve a little bit of that spotlight.   Pictured are two custom cardback figure protectors and four Diamond Select 💎  GI Joe figures.   I'd been looking for a way to protect my stashed 3.75  o-ring Joe's when I came across these online. I picked up William Perry's and Snake Eyes protectors and will be adding more as they are made available.   These are unpunched, clean and professional looking cardbacks that feature vintage artwork  on the front and file card on the back.  Diamond Select just doesn't get the props they deserve in my opinion. As much as I dig  their Marvel Minimates line, these Joe Minimates are equally cool! I'm not even sure I want to open these guys up. I mean I want to, but would hate to.

Pop Culture League Assignment - Shelfie

I remember The League of Extraordinary Bloggers back In the day, never partook In any of the festivities, though. This time around, especially with state of  the blogosphere , I feel I need to participate a little more to see If we can breathe life back into toy blogging! So , a big thank you to Brian over at Cool and Collected  for  bringing the League back. Here's my  introductory league assignment post. Very simple ,snap a pic of two of your very favorite shelves. I chose the two shelves hat display all of my vintage . It only recently wrapped around to the bottom shelf with the addition of  a couple of Swamp Thing figures I received from Brother Midnight In a recent trade. I'm hoping to fill out the bottom shelf over the coarse of the winter.
