90's Superman Comic

I stopped by my moms house today to drop off a new wheel for her lawnmower ,which I'll be using very soon weather permitting,to do her lawn every week. She handed me this white packet with a Superman insignia on It and said my aunt had left It there for me.My aunt  knows I'm a sucker for comics and things of that nature and decided It would be good idea to pass this on to me.I'm still wondering where she might have gotten It from, though?Oh well, when I see her ,I'll thank her and then get the low down on the Supes mag ;)

I know nothing about this run of Superman so If anybody has any nuggets of info they'd like to lend,do so In the comment section. Also, should I remove the translucent cover? And why the translucent cover In the first place?

The package also included a neat trading card depicting  4 alternate versions of  Superman.

Last but not least.Anybody familiar with hollar.com?Well my package arrived today and In my next post ,we'll go over the awesomeness together :)

  1. This comic came out after the Death of Superman and Funeral for a Friend storylines. This issue introduced the 4 would-be replacements for Superman. The Eradicator, Steel (Shaquille played him in a movie), Superboy ( a clone of Superman and Lex Luthor and the evil cyborg Superman! The bagged version is the deluxe edition of this comic. I've got a copy in my collection.

  2. I actually had two copies of this at one point, but it was the non-bagged version. One I bought from the comics stand in Rite-Aid, the other was in one of those multipacks that Toys R Us used to sell. It came with the sheet of trading cards, as well as the issues introducing the individual Supermen.

The issue itself isn't particularly valuable, so it won't hurt to take it out of the bag and read it.

    1. Yeah, the last one of these I picked up was at the Dollar Tree! Still a cool comic from the 90s to have in your collection. I was always a fan of the "Reign of Supermen" story line.

    3. My Dollar Tree had the comic 3-packs for a bit, but once they sold out, they never replaced them. I'll have to check and see if they're back.

  3. I'm not a big comic book guy, but I do love me some 90's gimmick covers.

  4. I never felt so offended by the return of a character in all my years of comic reading. I felt duped into buying books that inflated in price, only to watch them all drop down to quarter box fodder.

Don't get me wrong, the Death of Superman was a great read, but the whole return story line was a big middle finger to everyone. DC's ultimate joke on the world, and we were all the punchline.
