Go! Games and Toys

Image
The other day ,my better half and I had the chance to traverse our local mall early In the day.I hate going to malls at peak hours or on the weekends. The crowds are just too damn cool for me.Long story short, our mall now has a toy store! I couldn't believe my eyes. From a far It looked like It was going to be some artsy fartsy place with educational toys ,wooden blocks and model kits, but no!This place had pretty much everything collectors go for nowadays. The name of the store Is "Go!,Toys and Games" and I can honestly say that I've never heard of It before.Everything was a dollar or two extra ,but that's not too bad considering how ridiculously expensive modern toys are In hobby and toy shops these days.I really hope this place sticks around. There Is a nice mix of everything.Marvel Legends,Star Wars  to blind bags to Funko figs.On top of that there are tons of board games   and books. WTF? Yes! 3 3/4 Marvel Legends!!!!!Not alot thou...

TMNT Michelangelo (vintage)

Image
I got Michelangelo today!I managed to find his soft head version with at least one set of nun chucks and some extra weapons to arm the other turtles.

TMNT Leonardo (vintage)

Image
I've been after vintage TMNT figures for what seems like an eternity. The four, original turtles anyway. It seems like many of the gimmick turtles and supporting cast of heroes and villains could be had on the cheap while the original four always carried a hefty price tag. That hefty price tag doubled If the  turtles happened to be the soft, rubber head versions.I finally stuck to my guns, got assertive and picked up all four turtles over the weekend. It took a little leg work and sacrifice ,as I had to sell off some of my contemporary collection to pull It off.Leonardo arrived yesterday and I'm super thrilled to have him! It's not the soft head version, nor did he come with any weapons, but at least I got him with his web gear.If anybody has an extra vintage Leonardo Katana lying around for trade or donation, goodwill starts here ;)

Marvel Universe - Captain Britain (Comic Pack)

Image
Captain Britain Is a figure I would have loved to own as a kid.He was one of those obscure characters that never got alot of the spotlight, but always looked so cool to me.I remember seeing him in an art book called  How To Draw The Marvel Way.In fact this was the panel right here. I always liked his uniform and overall look but never knew much about him.Lots of people prefer his cowl uni over the original but not me.I'll take the  ninja masked look any day over the cowl.It wasn't until I picked up his comic pack that came with Spider-Man that I was able to really read up on his origins and find out a little more about him,the amulet and his staff . I like that Hasbro gave him the taller sculpt ,giving him a more imposing appearance.I'm also digging the amulet as a separate piece instead of it being molded into the sculpt. The flag design on his wrists and mask look good too.

Spider-Man Fiercest Foes - Venom

Image
I'll be revisiting some of my favorite figures these next couple of days ,starting with this here Venom.I had pretty much accepted the fact that I was never going to own a Venom figure.I came late to the Spider-Man Fiercest Foes party and every Venom figure  on  eBay and Amazon was selling for ridiculous amounts.Years later , while making a quick stop at Walgreens,I decided to check out the toy aisle.Walgreens overprices their action figures, and sometimes they'll warm the pegs long after whatever line their from disappears from department store shelves. After scanning past the usual suspects, a bunch of  Dragon Ball Z,Walking Dead   and Mortal Kombat figs,I spotted the bright  Spider-Man Fiercest Foes cardbacks! And there was Venom! He was still overpriced  at $13.99  but cheaper than the $25.00 they were asking for on eBay and Amazon. I brought It home, thinking I had the perfect Venom action figure, only to be let down after taking him out of th...

TMNT O.O.T.S. - Rhino Chopper w/ Rocksteady

Image
Now this Is a contemporary TMNT figure set I can get behind.I had picked this up last weekend with some birthday cash , thinking It was 20 bucks.I was surprised when It rang up $16.99.I'm not sure If this was a clearance item or If that was the original price to begin with. While the Bebop figure was good,I' don't think I'm going out on a limb when I declare this version of Rocksteady ,a great figure! I'll go into the "why's" after we take a look at the Rhino Chopper. Funny how box art and product images  tend to always look better than the in-hand item. That's not the case here.To really appreciate the awesomeness of  this here set,you have to take this toy out of the packaging. You'll notice the extra accessory,a spiked bat and the two missiles that spring load into two cannons located underneath the Choppers engine. The cool thing about the spiked bat accessory Is that you slide It into a a set of clips on the side of the cycle.I expected...

TMNT 2 O.O.T.S. - Bebop

Image
I'm glad I passed on the Playmates  Nickelodeon cartoon series  Bebop now that I have this movie version in hand. It's a way better representation of the original and that's all I really wanted.Something that came close, at least. Out pf the packaging,Bebop Is a hefty figure with very little paint apps. The sculpt Is decent with some texture to the bare areas to give it some semblance to  pig skin .The weapons are nicely sculpted as well, but again,no paint apps to speak of. Articulation Is a little wonky in the arm areas. His wrists seem to want to swivel, but don't.They'll move a little but anymore twisting and I fear they might break off. I could try the hot water trick to see If they loosen up a bit.His legs are pretty mobile for them being so short. You can move those around nicely. The head ,while articulated, still has limited movement.       Tattoos are always  a plus on any action figure .So are mo-hawks and studded bracelets. ...
