What I'm Reading

Image
It's been a hectic couple of weeks. Work has been non-stop, although I am grateful for every minute of it. These days I barely have the time to sit back and write up a solid post about anything really. As a stay home dad, blogging used to feel like a therapeutic distraction. Working full time has filled that void and then some. Days off are spent splitting and making time for all of my passions -  making music/ gaming/ reading/ collecting/ blogging and most importantly my daughter. Blogging hasn't been very high on the priority list. I should do something about that 🤔  Anyways,  here's what I've been skimming through these past couple of weeks.  This is actually issue #1 of an 8 issue series that Matt (Toy Box) sent me a little while back. I haven't gotten through it all but love what I've read so far. Elektra, if your out there, I'm single and have a really, really cool action figure collection 😉😉 The Infinity Gauntlet has been high on my wan...

Merry Christmas To Me Pt. 2

Image
It's no surprise to most who read my blog that Daredevil and Wolverine are atop my favorite 5 comic book characters list. Both are depicted on Daredevil issue # 249! This has been on my ebay watch list for some time now and I figured it was time to pull the trigger on it. It's not pricey or anything. For me, the value here lies in the nostalgic factor. One more for the old comic book rack!

The Savage Dragon

These just came in yesterday. I've been wanting to get into the Savage Dragon universe for a while now so I'm glad I'll finally be able to. These are issues 1-3 and we're released in 1992.

Wonder Man Comic Lot!

Image
I recently received my package containing 17  issues of  Wonder Man 1991 -94!This was a series I wanted to get into as a kid but only managed to  pick up the two titles you see below.I don't know what happened.I must have lost interest.I do remember really loving the character.Wonder Man came off as being kind of  aloof  and arrogant In the comics,some-timing as a Hollywood actor. He was kind of a lone wolf and that was something I gravitated towards when It came to comic book heroes and villains that appealed to me.I can't wait to read through these again and give you guys a little more insight into one of Marvels', IMO,most underrated heroes. Silver Surfer Issue #1 1987

Image
The great thing about recollecting things from your past Is being able to flash right back to the exact moment you first acquired them. With comics, you get to narrow it down to the specific months and years!Silver Surfer was a series I tried  to buy monthly ,as they released.I remember getting pretty hooked on the storyline and wanting to read every issue but only being able to acquire the first 4 .Comic shop visits were sparse as the only person who knew where all the shops were was my sisters boyfriend at the time.He would always find the time to pick me up for trips to the Arcade,Toys R Us and LCS.One of those trips to the LCS resulted in the acquisition of this baby right here.... Marvel Silver Surfer #1 1987 (Front) Marvel Silver Surfer #1 1987 (Back) I can remember making one more trip to that same shop looking for issue number 5 and the shop owner telling me he didn't have It.I subsequently gave up on  the search and moved on to other titles.Still, nothing b...

Mephisto 1987 (Limited Series) Issues 1,2,3

Image
The only issue of Mephisto I had as a kid was  #3.I probably wouldn't have picked up the other issues In this limited series but since they sold as a lot ,I pulled the trigger on them.Issue #3 will be the only one to go on display. The others will go In a comic box.Yup ,you heard right.I am officially In the market for a comic box.Which means ,you guessed It,more comics on the way! As far as Mephisto goes, all I can remember about him was that he was pretty bad ass!Remember I was 10 when I first read issue number 3 so everything's pretty much a blur ,right now.But that's what's so great about re-collecting childhood comics.Re-reading them and being overcome by  that  "ohhhhh,I remember that, now!" feeling! So looking forward to it! X-Force Issue #1

Image
My childhood comic book collection consisted mostly of  cool looking covers or just issues and story arcs that I thoroughly enjoyed reading.I wasn't hip to the creators of the content.I mean ,I knew there were different artists and writers but I never based my comic purchases on any one name In the business. If It was a Marvel book,I was gonna give It a try, regardless of who inked or lettered the comic. Also ,any superhero team that started with the letter "X " was a must read for me.I was super excited when I first found out about about X-Force.My thinking was ,this was going to be X-Men all over again, but with new characters! And when I finally saw the first issue on my LCS  shelves,I instantly fell In love with the cover! It was larger than life ,with an imposing Cable on the front and an equally insane looking character (Shatterstar) on the back holding twin Katanas! I must admit to not being able to remember the story as It was years ago when I last read it.I'm al...

The Punisher War Journal Issue #1

Image
It must have been summer of 1989  when I picked this one up, as a 12 year old, while visiting my moms side of the family In Manhattan,NY. I remember It clearly. My mom, sister and I walking through a crowded Delancey St. In search of a clothing store for my sister.Me?I didn't want no stinkin' clothes.I wanted comics! And It turns out magazine news stands outnumbered clothing stores 20 to 1 on that particular strip so I got to get my shopping on first!I can remember my sister throwing a fit about It,calling me a spoiled brat under her breath ,lol! She was right, though ;) As we crossed the busy street, approaching  the newsstand ,I could see It!There It was!A first issue Punisher mag with issues 2 and 3 right behind It!I scooped up all three along with a few other miscellaneous titles.    The amount of nostalgia swirling around my head right now , as I type this , Is off the charts!Punisher War Journal was one of my most immersive comic book experiences.Ever! An expe...

So,My Local Grocery Store Now Sells Comics!

Image
$5.99 for 4 comics!I'll take It considering that Is what one comic book goes for nowadays.Lets crack this baby open and see what we got!  A 1985 copy of The Uncanny X-Men issue # 196.A lackluster cover and from the few pages I've already flipped through,It seems to be light on action ,too. The best thing this comic has going for It Is the mentioning of  Secret Wars 2  on the corner of the cover.Anything referencing Secret Wars 1 or 2 Is a winner In my book! 1985 Marvel  # 196 The Uncanny X-Men Gambit  And The X-Ternals. A 1995 Deluxe Issue #1 of a superhero team I never new existed. From what I can tell It consists of Gambit,Strong Guy,Jubilee and I'm not so sure who the other two might be.I'm gonna take a guess and say Polaris and a souped up version of Warpath.I'm pretty sure I'm wrong on all but two ,Gambit and Jubilee.A promising looking cover ,nonetheless, and a number 1 issue ,so that's always nice. 1995 Marvel #1 Gambit And The X-Te...

90's Superman Comic

Image
I stopped by my moms house today to drop off a new wheel for her lawnmower ,which I'll be using very soon weather permitting,to do her lawn every week. She handed me this white packet with a Superman insignia on It and said my aunt had left It there for me.My aunt  knows I'm a sucker for comics and things of that nature and decided It would be good idea to pass this on to me.I'm still wondering where she might have gotten It from, though?Oh well, when I see her ,I'll thank her and then get the low down on the Supes mag ;) I know nothing about this run of Superman so If anybody has any nuggets of info they'd like to lend,do so In the comment section. Also, should I remove the translucent cover? And why the translucent cover In the first place? The package also included a neat trading card depicting  4 alternate versions of  Superman. Last but not least.Anybody familiar with hollar.com?Well my package arrived today and In my next post ,we'll ...

IDW Revolution

Image
I think the last time I bought a comic book ,a contemporary comic book with some sort of relevancy,Ronald Reagan  was president.I came close to picking up the new Secret Wars series that released in 2015.Oh ,and the new DC 52 stuff ,too. But I never pulled the trigger on either.I had been out of the loop for so long.Couple that with the 4 dollar price tag per comic and the only thing they got out of me was a disinterested "Nah,I'll pass." Now,recently I had been hearing talk about a merger of popular 80's toy franchises ,coming together for a big screen debut.MASK,G.I. Joe ,Transformers,Micronauts, ROM and I believe Visionaries made the cut as well. This literally blew the drawers off  of me!This Is something I have been wanting to happen since I began collecting action figures. In fact one of the reasons why I started to collect 3 3/4 was because so many different lines/characters were available ,and I would be able to mix and match my figures like never before!I have a...
